The rich tapestry of culture throughout the countries on the waterways we travel is often quite wonderous, which we soak in as we meander along. After many years of travel through the regions of Europe in our cruising routes, we know of places of interest, but there are just so many that we still enjoy the feeling of discovering them.
The local tourist offices provide a great source of information to find the castles, chateaux, palaces, museums, villages, vinyards, markets and all that feeds the souls of those living in the locality.
The infrastructure on which we travel, i.e. the canals and rivers, often prove to be of interest to our visitors, given that they were dug or created to ease transportation of goods to feed the growing populations. In Holland the network of canals is even more interesting, given that they were dug to drain the water back into the sea. When you land at Schipol airport in Amsterdam, the runway is 5 metres below sea-level, lets hope the dams hold!
We also enjoy getting off the beaten track, where one can often find quite inspiring places of interest, in villages or countryside that is simply beautiful.
